El U121 estaba siendo construido para la marina China cuando al iniciarse la guerra fue confiscado por la Kriegsmarine.
Este uboot no participó nunca en operaciones de combate y durante la guerra fue utilizado como uboot escuela. Fue barrenado en Bremerhaven el día 2 de Mayo de 1945.
Más tarde fue reflotado y desguazado.
